Meet Caron Curragh
I have a passion to help people.
I have spent the last 20 years as a health professional helping many people achieve their goals and find happinesss. My devotion for helping people find their true potential in life also spreads into helping those who have been recently diagnosed with an illness.
I am a hypnotherapist and a graduate of the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH) where I received my post-graduate practitioner's diploma (PDCH in Clinical Hypnotherapy). Prior to this, I received my Certification in Clinical Hypnosis with the LCCH and the University of West London. The LCCH is one of the most respected trainers in Clinical Hypnosis worldwide.
I am currently studying and training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) at the University of Oxford.
I am a fully insured member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (BSCH) and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). My clinic is based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
Practice Areas
These are the principal areas which I can treat - if your issue is not specifically mentioned, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss how I can help.
01
Stress & anxiety
Stress is a part of life. We need a certain amount of stress to get things achieved; it is like a call for energy. Too low levels can lead to inactivity and boredom but equally when stress becomes prolonged and is maintained at too high a level, it can lead to mental and physical exhaustion and, if maintained over longer periods of time, to illness. We become stressed when demands placed on us are greater than our resources to cope with them.
Anxiety tends to equate to our feelings about a stressor (e.g. worry about the future or ruminating about the past).
There have been many clinical research studies done on the use of hypnotherapy on anxiety/stress reduction and the evidence provides compelling evidence that it is an effective treatment.
During your sessions with me, once we know the root causes of the "how and why" of your stress and anxiety, the hypnotherapy part will be undertaken followed with practical skills and resources given to break the worry-stress-anxiety loop leaving you more empowered and energised for change. With a firm base established there are numerous different strategies we can use, customised to meet your needs.

Stopping smoking
When using hypnotherapy to stop smoking, due to the fact that everybody's habit is different, it is important that the therapy is tailored to you as an individual.
Academic studies have concluded that hypnotherapy, when used with cognitive and/or behavioural therapy, leads to a more successful outcome.
The reasons for stopping smoking and the huge benefits for health are well cited in the medical literature: lung disease, heart attacks, peripheral vascular disease, increased risk of stroke to name a few. However, a person must TRULY want to stop smoking for the therapy to be successful.
Often the financial implications are missed. Smoking 20 cigarettes a day over 5 years would be at a total cost to you of £15,000.
If YOU feel you want to give up smoking, (it is unlikely to work if you have come to see me because someone else has forced you to be there!) my aim with this programme is for you to stop your smoking in one session therefore the session will be 2 hours in length.
02
Self-esteem and self-confidence do not always go hand in hand. It is possible to be highly self-confident and yet have profoundly low self-esteem. For example, think how many celebrities and performers can perform to an audience of thousands (self-confidence) but suffer from low self-esteem due to a low self-value and habituate the use of alcohol or drugs.
A lack of either, or both of these, can hold us back from achieving what we are truly capable of.
Sometimes we may be unconsciously stopping ourselves from achieving our true potential, perhaps due to something that happened many years ago and it becomes ingrained. Whatever the causation, hypnotherapy is a proven tool for promoting development of heathy self-esteem and self-confidence.
Whatever the area in your life you wish to create and build your confidence (e.g. presenting; social situations; enhancing sports performance) and/or build self esteem, I will work with you to instigate change. True self-esteem stems from not "what you do" but from "who you really are", before those put-you-downs in life occurred. We just need to work together and change those embedded limiting beliefs about yourself stored in your unconscious mind.
05
Phobias
A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder with an irrational fear of something - with typical reactions described as being "paralysed with fear","wanting to run away". They can be simple (e.g. a fear of dogs, flying, having injections) or complex (e.g. agoraphobia, social phobia).
An irrational fear of something can be a learned behaviour from a parent, e.g. a parent may have been frightened of spiders, or can be associated with a particular incident or trauma. If a phobia starts to interfere with everyday life, you start to avoid certain situations or it starts to create anxiety or panic then it is prudent to seek help.
Hypnotherapy can help identify the root cause of the problem and enable individuals to react to a particular situation or object in a calmer manner and no longer be overwhelmed by it.
I work with a number of different methods to ameliorate phobias as one size does not fit all . Feeling safe is paramount when working with phobias and I will ensure that you feel safe at all times.

Insomnia
Quality sleep, in the right amount and at the right time, is crucial to overall good health. It is the time when the body recovers from its daily activities; when damaged cells heal themselves; recharges the heart and cardiovascular system for the following day and is used for boosting the immune system. It is also important for good brain function as it clears waste from the brain and regenerates the brain neurons to enable the brain to function optimally - all leading to clearer and quicker thinking and a more positive mood the following day. Sleep is like the brain's laundry!
Clinical hypnotherapy has been proven highly effective in treating insomnia by tackling any potential causes and helping you reestablish healthy sleeping patterns.
In your sessions with me, we will analyse your current lifestyle and anything that may be affecting your sleeping patterns before commencing the actual "hypnosis for insomnia" element. Through dilligent examination and working closely together my aim is to help you establish a healthy, nourishing and lasting sleeping pattern which will lead to less daytime fatigue, better levels of concentration, lower levels of anxiety and better physical and mental health.

Health problems
Clinical/medical hypnotherapy can have a highly positive effect with patient support for a variety of medical conditions. The Guideline Development Group, part of the National Institute for Clinical Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), agreed that there is potential for long term benefits to the NHS from hypnotherapy and included it in one of its top 5 areas for research.
Clinical research has shown the therapy to be a useful adjunct when used alongside medical treatments. Numerous studies have shown that cancer patients experienced less pain, nausea, fatigue and emotional upset following surgery after receiving hypnotherapy. Heart patients given hypnotherapy pre-surgery recovered more quickly, with less side effects and were happier and more accepting of their diagnosis.
I have worked successfully since 2000 with hundreds of patients who were stuck in chronic pain, either due to illness or muscular /skeletal problems. I also work regularly with patients with heart issues; recovering from cancer and a number of other health issues.
